HENDERSON, Nev.–CU Pride Month in June will kick off with an education leadership conference and other events.
According to CU Pride, “There is change happening and the world is getting a little brighter, more colorful in credit unions. When discussing diversity, our LGBTQ+ professionals have often been invisible but not anymore.”
The organization said June, which is also Pride Month, is “opportunity, as an industry, to come together, create awareness, learn more and build allyship with a community that needs us all.”
The CU Pride Leadership Conference will take place virtually on June 7 from 9 am – 1 pm PST, will bring industry executives and thought leaders together to discuss community engagement, CEO perspectives, allyship and the business case for LGBTQ+ inclusion, according to the organization.
‘Terrific Opportunity’
“The CU Pride Leadership Conference is a terrific opportunity to celebrate the creation of CU Pride,” said Jim Morrell, CEO, Peninsula CU. “Gathering as leaders, we will be inspired to do more to create a sense of belonging and inclusivity for the LGBTQ+ employees and members while providing the thought and tools for us to be better allies, both as individuals and organizations.”
CU Pride said the conference will include 18 speakers providing perspective, sharing best practices, and giving attendees ideas to put into action. Topics will include LGBTQ+ inclusion from the CEO perspective, community activation, moving from allyship to safe space, and debunking the myths around the community.
In addition, CU Pride said it will be hosting weekly events including the popular BGHH educational and networking session, two 30-minute Pride+ pop events, the fourth annual Virtual CU Pride Celebration and, new this year, the Allies into Action webinar, which will continue monthly moving forward.
‘Listen & Learn’
"As an ally, I don't know what I don't know so CU Pride education helps me listen and learn," shared Brandi Stankovic, co-founder and principal of Strategic Advisory Services.
The organization reminded that CU Pride officially opened membership this year at #DEITuesday during CUNA’s GAC in Washington.
“Membership allows CU Pride to build towards sustainability, offer educational sessions, professional networking and create opportunities to learn how to serve the LGBTQ+ community at your credit union,” CU Pride said. “And if your organization becomes a member before June 1, you will receive three complimentary registrations to the Annual CU Pride Leadership Conference.”
‘Celebrate Diversity’
"Join the industry as we celebrate diversity and ensure the LGBTQ+ community is part of every DEI conversation within credit unions,” urged Zach Christensen, executive director of CU Pride.
