HENDERSON, Nev.–CU Pride is celebrating its fourth anniversary by announcing a well-known name has joined its leadership.
In a statement, the organization, which serves those in credit unions who are part of or who support the LGBTQ+ community, said it is dedicated to raising awareness, providing education and increasing inclusionary programming that will support employees and member engagement as consumers recognize that “credit unions are different.”
“As credit unions continue to build out their DEI efforts, CU Pride is being tapped to further engage so people can learn and better understand the LGBTQ+ community,” said Zach Christensen, CU Pride’s executive director and a Mitchell Stankovic and Associates director. “To this end, CU Pride is excited to announce that Patsy Van Ouwerekerk, retired CEO of Travis Credit Union, has joined the team. In her new role, Patsy will provide strategic support, ensure the priorities of the association’s members are being met, facilitate ongoing activities, and demonstrate that executive sponsors are vital to navigate the future.”
Found a ‘Voice’
Van Ouwerkerk retired as president/CEO of Travis Credit Union after 43-years.
“I found my voice at an early age and have aways been an advocate for those who haven’t had the same opportunities to speak up,” Van Ouwerkirk said. “CU Pride’s mission to educate, embrace, share and celebrate aligns with my values so when asked, I said yes. I hope to use my background and influence to help CU Pride grow and give everyone a chance to be heard.”
New Network Formed
In addition, CU Pride said it is creating a formal CU Pride Volunteer Network to create content, curate conversations on social media, and serve as an internal focus group as we identify needs not yet met by the industry.
“We know collaboration is a tried and true strategy in creating change,” said Josh Roberts, VP of System Collaboration & Development at the Wisconsin Credit Union League. “CU Pride members are passionate and I look forward to working with the Volunteer Network and building upon the foundation of CU Pride.”
The organization said additional announcements will be coming in the next 60 days and on June 12th will host its CU Pride Leadership Conference.
