CU Part Of String Of Robberies In Which Vehicles Are Crashed Into Buildings

WATERLOO, Iowa–A string of robberies here that has involved using vehicles to smash into buildings has now struck a credit union.

Waterloo Police said a vehicle was used to crash into a branch of Dupaco Community Credit Union at 3:34 a.m. in a failed attempt to steal a cash machine.

According to police, the burglars crashed into a glass wall at the credit union and then used the vehicle to drag out a cash recycling machine. When police arrived they found the machine, but it wasn’t clear if the burglars were unable to lift it to load it into the vehicle or if they were scared off by a passerby.

Also in Waterloo, police said a suspect used an SUV to crash into the Texas Street Mart but left after apparently realizing they were being watched. An SUV was also used to slam through the front door of the Prime Mart where two people walked into the store, examined a gaming machine and then left, police said. In addition, an ATM was dragged out of the B&B East convenience store after a van backed through the front door. The burglars were able to load the machine into the van and drive off, police said. The van had been reported stolen from a mobile home park and was later found burned with the ATM inside the van.
