CU Offering Loan Special For Striking Teachers

CHICAGO–A credit union here is offering financial assistance to striking teachers. United Credit Union said is offering a weekly $300 loan to members for the duration of the strike by the Chicago Teachers Union, with the amount capped at $1,200.

The Strike Loan is available to any member of the teachers union who is also in good standing with the credit union. Non-members are being urged to sign up.

The strike includes approximately 25,000 teachers and 7,000 support staff and has kept around 300,000 students out of school.

The $222-milion United Credit Union has approximately 19,000 members.

As CUToday.info has also reported, credit unions in other parts of the country are also offering financial support to workers currently striking against General Motors.
