CU Has a Sooper Idea For How to Climb to New Heights

ARVADA, Colo.—Sooper Credit Union has announced plans to change names.

Effective May 28, the $674-million Sooper CU will become Climb Credit Union.

Sooper CU was founded in 1951 by a group of employees of the supermarket chain King Soopers, and has since expanded its FOM to include most Colorado residents. It currently has nearly 40,000 members.

“Our passion to serve each of our members and our community has always been at the center of who we are. Our name is changing but our mission is not,” President/CEO, Carrie Langgard said in a statement. “As we look to the future of our credit union, we want to ensure that every member feels heard, supported, and empowered to take their next steps in reaching their financial goals. Because at Climb Credit Union, no one climbs alone.”

‘Longstanding Passion’

The credit union added it chose the name “Climb” to reflect its “longstanding passion for helping members reach that next level. It encourages members to aspire for more. The name is optimistic and actively reaching for the future, just like the credit union.”

Additional information on the new name, including a video, can be found here.
