ORLANDO–Darden Credit Union here is reporting a breach has led it to reverse numerous fraudulent charges—including some from Brazil–for members and to issue new debit cards.
Fewer than 1,000 members were affected, according to the Orlando Sentinel. No member information has been breached, just the card numbers.
The credit union said it’s not yet known what the total losses to the credit union might be. Darden CU, is a sub-brand of Tampa-based USF Federal Credit Union.
According to Darden CU, members have been seeing one or multiple charges for $2.29 from the merchant, dr.scabies.com. Darden CU noted such small charges often occur to test the legitimacy of the card number.
The Sentinel shared one member’s story that he was one of approximately 20 people waiting in one branch, with some members saying they had also experienced fraudulent charges from Bonanza Resorts in Brazil.
