CU CEO Plans To Run For City Commission

Lisa Brown

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.–Lisa Brown, president and CEO of Tallahassee-Leon Federal Credit Union, said she plans to run for a seat on the City Commission.

Brown is filing to run for Seat 3 held by Commissioner Nancy Miller, who's not seeking re-election, with her announcement coming a day after Rick Minor bowed out of the Seat 3 race to run for an open County Commission seat, according to the Tallahassee Democrat.

Brown told the Democrat she’s worked with communities around the world on issues from housing and transportation to hunger and crime as part of her work with the World Council of Credit Unions.

“That experience I think uniquely positions me to be able to kind of take a creative approach and listen to all sides and make decisions that will really put our community on the cutting edge,” she was quoted as saying. “That is truly exciting to me.”

Brown, 42, was born and raised in Tallahassee and currently has no party affiliation, telling the Democrat she is a “moderate.”

As CUToday.info reported here, earlier this year Brown partnered a local performer to pen a song that is a tribute to local city and county workers, including first responders and electric lineman. The song includes a video featuring Tallahassee.

Separately, as CUToday.info recently reported here, Mendell L. Thompson, CEO of America’s Christian Credit Union, was recently appointed as the 41st Mayor of the City of Glendora, Calif.
