WASHINGTON–Twenty-nine of the 31 candidates who received funding from the Credit Union Legislative Action Council and the respective state leagues won their races this week in the five states that held primaries, according to CUNA.
To date, CULAC and CUNA said 73 candidates who have received CU support have successfully advanced to the general election in November.
As CUToday.info reported, CULAC had backed the 31 candidates on Tuesday with $169,000 in donations. The primaries took place in Idaho, Kentucky, North Carolina, Oregon and Pennsylvania.
According to CULAC, among the most closely watched races was that of Rep. Mike Simpson (R-ID), who faced four challengers in the primary before winning the Republican race.
In North Carolina, CULAC and the Carolinas Credit Union League (CCUL) supported state senator Chuck Edwards in his successful challenge to unseat incumbent Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC).
Open-Seat Races
According to CULAC, other “notable” open seat wins for credit union-backed candidates included:
- Morgan McGarvey (D-KY) in partnership with the Kentucky Credit Union League
- Valerie Foushee (D-NC) and Jeff Jackson (D-NC) in partnership with the CCUL
- Val Hoyle (D-OR) in partnership with the NWCUA
