COLUMBIA, S.C.–Credit unions will be watching a special election here for a congressional seat.
Today’s primary race is to fill the seat vacated by Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-SC), who left to take over as director of the Office of Management and Budget in the Trump Administration.
Fifteen candidates filed to run in the race, including three Democrats, seven Republicans and five third-party candidates.
Winners of the primary will then face off against each other on May 16.
Credit unions are backing Republican Tommy Pope, who is the state house speaker pro tempore and have made the maximum allowable contribution to his campaign.
