CU Awareness, LLC Awards 5 Registrations to CUNA’s GAC

WASHINGTON– Credit Union Awareness LLC, the entity that oversees CUNA’s “Open Your Eyes to a Credit Union” campaign, said five winners have been chosen for its Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC) 2022 Contest.

The contest, designed to reward credit unions who renewed or contributed towards the 2022-2024 Credit Union Awareness program, concluded on Oct. 31, 2021.
According to CUNA, all contest winners have been notified and credit unions have until Jan. 22, 2022 to designate their GAC attendee. If no attendee is designated by that date, the registration is forfeited.

The five winning credit unions are:

  • Mid Oregon Credit Union in Bend, Ore.
  • Cherokee Strip Credit Union in Ponka City, Okla.
  • Greenville Federal Credit Union in Greenville, S.C.
  • Home Federal Credit Union in Clarksburg, W.V.
  • Omaha Public Power District Employees Federal Credit Union in Omaha, NE

Under the contest, credit unions could enter for a chance to win one free GAC in-person registration valued at $1,195. Winning credit unions were chosen at random from new three-year contribution agreements or three-year renewals in launched states created and executed between July 1-Oct. 31, 2021, CUNA said.
‘Excited to Return’

“After almost two years of virtual events, Credit Union Awareness is excited to return to an in-person GAC. This live event allows credit unions, leagues, and system partners from across the United States to join thousands of their peers to share the credit union difference,” said Chris Lorence, executive director of CU Awareness. “We look forward to seeing contributors and non-contributors alike in early 2022.”
CU Awareness reported the Open Your Eyes program has launched in 27 states and has the backing of more than 1,100 credit unions nationwide. Since launching the program in January 2019 and based on the latest consumer consideration research measurement in July 2021, consideration for credit unions nationally as checking and savings account providers has risen from 13% to 19%, “exceeding our three-year goal six months early, by 6%,” CU Awareness said.

In addition, it said consideration for credit unions as lenders has also risen nationally from 14% to 22%, exceeding our three-year goal six months early, by 8%.
