CU Assn. of New Mexico Forms Several Employee Resource Groups

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.–The Credit Union Association of New Mexico is reporting it has launched a number of employee resource groups (ERG) with a goal of enabling the workers in the state’s 40 credit unions to network and support one other.

According to the association, the most popular ERG to date has been CUshine, which is dedicated to supporting LGBTQ+ employees and allies at credit unions.

In April, the CUshine employee group staged its first event called “Let’s CUshine!” that included a discussion panel, said Melissa Dineen, director of cooperative development and momentum at the CUANM.

“The world is different now,” Dineen said. “The event brought some important issues to the surface. There are subsets of groups that need support in other ways.”

CUshine plans a float for the PrideFest parade in Albuquerque in June.

The employee resource groups, especially CUshine, stem from Juan E. Fernández Ceballos, who became CUANM president and CEO in May 2021 and is gay, according to the Santa Fe New Mexican.

The other employee resource groups are CUadvocate, which advocates with government entities; CUgrow, which creates new educational and training opportunities; and CUheroes, dedicated to veterans and first responders.
