CFPB Holds Checking Account Screening Forum

WASHINGTON—The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau will be holding a forum on checking account screening practices here today, at which credit union trade association representatives will be on hand.

Presentations will be made from consumer groups, federal and local government officials, and industry representatives. According to the CFPB, the forum will include “discussions about current bank account screening practices, the effect these practices have on consumers’ ability to acquire and use checking account products, and more generally, the availability of financial products and services that meet their needs.”

The CFPB expects the event to “inform the dialogue around how the screening system works and how to improve the availability of information and products for consumers.”
