BUTLER, Penn.–The $334-million Butler Armco Employees CU said it is changing its name, or in this case, shortening it.
BAECU has filed an application with the Pennsylvania Department of Banking and Securities to operate as Armco Credit Union.
Manager Randall Cypher told local media that “People always refer to us as Armco Credit, it rolls off the tongue a little easier. We wanted to honor our heritage but we serve over 100 other groups than just the Butler Armco employees.”
The credit union was founded in 1935 to serve employees of Armco Steel’s Butler plant. But the original sponsor became AK Steel Holdings nearly a quarter century ago, and the credit union has opened its FOM to other companies, as well.
In addition, it has absorbed several other CUs via merger.
BAECU has 30,901 members.
