ALBANY, N.Y.– Broadview FCU said it is donating more than $500,000 to fight hunger and food insecurity throughout the Capital Region, Binghamton, Syracuse, and Buffalo.
The half-million-dollar donation focuses on addressing the immediate and increasing need for food while also helping local nonprofits plan for tomorrow, according to the credit union.
The $500,000 donation includes short-term financial investments to help 51 food banks and pantries across Broadview’s geographic footprint stock their shelves.
It also includes the purchase of a robust, new Freight Farm for the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, Broadview FCU said.
“This will be the fourth hydroponic farm in the Broadview-financed fleet,” the CU added. “Like the others, the new Freight Farm will allow the Regional Food Bank to grow fresh, organic produce year-round safely and easily.”
The credit union said the donation is also meant to celebrate the merger that created Broadview-- CAP COM and SEFCU—as it marks its one-year anniversary.
