Brinks Driver, Good Samaritan Shot During Credit Union Robbery

BRANDON, Fla.–A Brinks truck driver and a person called a Good Samaritan after running to the driver’s aid were shot by a suspected serial robber during a robbery at a branch of GTE Financial Credit Union here.

Both victims survived the shootings. The suspect remains on the loose.

According to authorities, both men received a gunshot wound to the torso as they fought off the armed suspect, who attacked the Brinks driver while he was replenishing cash in an ATM outside the building.

The driver was treated and released from a nearby hospital Saturday, while the second man – who helped ward off the attacker – received a hospital visit from Sheriff Chad Chronister.

Police said the Good Samaritan was waiting in the credit union’s parking lot for his wife to finish a transaction inside when he witnessed the holdup and intervened. The victims’ names have not been released.

“Finding this suspect is one of my top priorities. We are still actively working this investigation in coordination with the FBI,” the sheriff said.
