OKEMOS, Mich.–Brian McVeigh, who had a nearly 40-year career in credit unions, most recently as CEO of Adventure Credit Union, has died.
Mr. McVeigh was 59 and died from brain cancer.
A native of Detroit, Mr. McVeigh spent 37 years in credit unions, serving most of his career as CFO of State Employees Credit Union, which eventually became Lake Trust Credit Union.
“He was gifted at explaining complex financial situations in a way any person could easily understand,” according to his obituary. “His gentle and mild manner was known to calm even the most agitated circumstances. His abilities made Brian one of the best known and respected CFOs in credit unions on a national basis.”
McVeigh also served as chairman of the CUNA CFO Council.
McVeigh is survived by his wife of 31 years, Kelly, and two sons, RJ and Luke, as well as four grandchildren, his father, Glenn, and five siblings.
During his life he volunteered countless hours on the board of St. Vincent Catholic Charities and as chairman of the finance committee for Lansing Catholic High School.
‘Saw the Good in People’
“Brian was a devoted husband, father, and friend. Everywhere he went, Brian saw the good in people,” his obituary stated. “One of his greatest passions was mentoring others, especially his two sons. He loved golfing, fishing, hunting, and watching Spartan football and basketball. Brian was an avid blood donor. His favorite music was ‘70s rock, his favorite game was poker, his favorite drink was craft beer or Mountain Dew, his favorite Bible passage was the Parable of the Talents (Mt 25:14-30), and his favorite superhero was Batman. Brian’s most important value was his Catholic faith, followed closely by his commitments to family and education.”

The family is asking that any donations be made towards tuition assistance at either Immaculate Heart of Mary School, 3830 Rosemont Ave., Lansing, MI 48910, or St. Martha School, 1100 W. Grand River Ave., Okemos, MI 48864. There will also be a charity golf event in Brian’s honor to raise funds for Glioblastoma Cancer Research later in 2021, with details to come.
