CLEVELAND, Tenn.–Just three and a half years after its launch, the former Bradley Initiative Credit Union has changed its name.
The $2.6-million CU is now Smart Choice Credit Union.
BICU opened its doors in the former Blythe Avenue Elementary School building on Jan. 23, 2013 following two years of work and efforts by the Bradley Initiative for Church and Community. Much of that work involved raising sufficient capital.
Now Manager Denis Collins said the new name is meant to more accurately reflect the “mission” of the credit union, which is to promote savings, offer loans at reasonable rates and encourage ongoing financial literacy—in short, helping members to make smart choices.
“As part of our name-change ceremony, we will announce two new programs that will combine financial literacy and asset development in a unique way,” Collins told local media.
