Bloom CU Finds Ideal Buyer for Its Offices—Its Next Door Neighbor

WYOMING, Mich.–Bloom Credit Union has sold its building here at 1414 Burton St. S.W. to its next-door neighbor, Godfrey-Lee Public Schools.

The $187-million credit union said the agreement will allow it to will allow Bloom to continue to operate a branch out of the building for a time until it moves its administrative staff to a larger space at 401 Hall St. S.W.

“We ran out of office space and the growing school district needed additional, nearby space, so this is a solution that works well for both organizations,” said CEO Joe Heintskill.

Bloom Credit Union said it will eventually move its Wyoming branch to another nearby location in order to continue to meet the needs of people who live and work in the area.  Meanwhile, Bloom CU added, it will be able to bring their administrative staff back together under one roof.

‘Ideal Situation’

“Finding space to expand in the Godfrey-Lee School district has been a challenge, so being able to do it right next door to the district’s Administration Building is an ideal situation,” said Dr. Arnetta Thompson, superintendent of Godfrey-Lee Schools.

According to the credit union, a friendly conversation between the two long-time neighbors planted the seed for the idea.  Since then, the credit union said it has donated the funds to purchase a much-needed new scoreboard at the Lee High School athletic complex.

“Being able to move our corporate office into a nearby facility that is called the most environmentally-friendly building in the city, feels like an excellent fit for Bloom Credit Union,“ Heintskill said.

Green for New Green

The credit union further noted that for every new account opened at Bloom Credit Union in 2024 a tree will be planted in Michigan, thanks to a new partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation.
