Blimey! In the U.K., Another Record Year for Filing SARs

LONDON—2022 was another record year for suspicious activities reports in the U.K, according to the country’s National Crime Agency, which has published the 2022 Suspicious Activity Report (SARs) Annual Report.

The report, which features statistics covering the years 2020-21 and 2021-22, shows:

  • Another record was set in 2022 with 901,255 SARs received and processed—a 21% increase over the previous year
  • £305.7M was denied to suspected criminals as a result of Defense Against Money Laundering (DAML) requests – a 120.6% increase on the £138.6M denied in 2020-22.
