Blackhawk Community CU Still Plans New HQ, But Now Seeking New Site

JANESVILLE, Wis.–Blackhawk Community Credit Union has announced changes in plans for the new headquarters it is building here.

As CUToday.info reported earlier, the credit union in September 2018 released plans for a $30 million, 130,000 square-foot facility to be built along the river in a currently vacant spot.

BCCU CEO Sherri Stumpf told Channel3000.com that was no longer the case. "All of those exciting plans are still happening," Stumpf was quoted as saying. "They’re just happening on another site."

Stumpf said the decision not to build on the river was because of possible flooding, contaminated soil and timing issues, according to the report.

Stumpf told the publication the credit union will also still create a legacy center to honor the history of General Motors in Janesville.

Completion Date Set for 2021

Stumpf told Channel3000.com the Legacy Center will go in the former Chase Bank site, which currently sits vacant on Milwaukee Street. The headquarters itself will move to the Moose Lodge west of town, the publication said.

"If it didn’t work out on the river, we could go to another site," Stumpf told Channel3000.com. "We chose based on timing to do this at this point. This was the next best site in terms of helping Janesville move forward.”
Plans still call for the credit union to complete its headquarters by 2021.
