WASHINGTON—President Biden has designated Jessica Rosenworcel as chairwoman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
First nominated to the FCC by President Barack Obama in 2012, Rosenworcel was named acting FCC Chairwoman by Biden in January. If the U.S. Senate confirms her, Rosenworcel will serve as the first confirmed FCC Chairwoman in the FCC’s 87-year history. To date, the FCC has had only one other acting FCC Chairwoman, Mignon Clyburn, who led the FCC for roughly seven months in 2013, NAFCU noted.
Biden also nominated Gigi Sohn to fill the FCC Commissioner vacancy created in January by former FCC Chairman Ajit Pai’s departure. If the U.S. Senate confirms her designation, Sohn will serve as the first openly LGBTIQ+ FCC Commissioner and will likely tilt the FCC’s voting in favor of Democrats, 3-2, NAFCU said.
