WEST JORDAN, Utah–The third time has proven not to be the charm for two thieves here who have again attempted to blow up an ATM using propane gas.
According to police, the latest attempt was on an ATM of Chartway FCU here in which the thieves connect a propane tank to flood the machine with gas, then leave a trail of fuel they later light, hoping it will travel to the ATM and blow it open. High quality video of the most recent attempt was captured Chartway FCU’s cameras and can be found here.
As CUToday.info reported here, the same two suspects are believed to be behind similar attacks on ATMs at branches of Golden West Credit Union and American First Credit Union.
In the attack on the Chartway FCU ATM, police said the machine was destroyed but no cash was exposed.
“It’s just a really dangerous method, and we are afraid they are going to get hurt,” West Jordan police Sgt. J.C. Holt told the Sale Lake City Tribune.
