SAN DIEGO–San Diego County Credit Union didn’t stay out of the college bowl sponsorship business for long.
Just a month after it was announced that the San Diego County CU Poinsettia Bowl would no longer be played, the credit union said it has signed on as the title sponsor for the Holiday Bowl, which is played in the same stadium here and at nearly the same time as the now defunct Poinsettia Bowl.
SDCCU had sponsored and had naming rights to the Poinsettia Bowl for 12 years. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the financial terms and length of the deal with SDCCU were not disclosed, but it figures to be a long-term commitment.
“SDCCU is ecstatic to be the title sponsor of the Holiday Bowl,” SDCCU president and CEO Teresa Halleck said in a released statement. “We are proud to once again partner with the San Diego Bowl Game Association to achieve its mission to generate tourism, exposure, economic benefit and civic pride for San Diego by presenting the nation’s most exciting bowl game and festival of events.”
The Holiday Bowl matches teams from the Big Ten and Pac-12 each year, providing a $3-million payout to each of the competing schools. The game is typically played in the final week in December.
Halleck recently spoke with CUToday.info about why the credit union sponsors the college football bowl game. That interview can be found here.
