COSTA MESA, Calif.—The average debt per consumer has risen to $28,496, up 2.3% from 2013, while the average number of plastic bank cards carried per person is 2.18%, up 4.2% per person.
Those findings and others have been released as part of the fifth annual State of Credit report by Experian, which seeks to provide a comprehensive look at the credit health of consumers across America. The report analyzed nationwide data to determine how the nation is faring as well as the cities whose residents have the highest, lowest and most improved average credit scores.
