SAN FRANCISCO–During their recent conference here the Association of Credit Union Internal Auditors (ACUIA) introduced a new name and branding: the Association of Credit Union Audit and Risk Professionals (ACUARP).
According to the organization, the new ACUARP represents more than 800 internal auditors, risk and compliance professionals, enterprise risk management and supervisory committee members.
“As risk and ERM have become more prevalent at the credit union level, the board felt that this new name is more indicative of our membership. ACUIA paved the way for ACUARP to succeed,” said incoming ACUARP Chair Margaret Chamberlain of ONEAZ Credit Union.
In addition to Chamberlain, other executive committee members include John Gallagher of Northeast CU as vice chair, Tara Tocco of Hughes FCU as secretary, and Barry Lucas of Desco CU as treasurer.
Other Board members include Georgetta Carvin of Gulf CU, Tom Cosby of Crane CU, Shelley Engelman of 717 CU, Tabitha Ernst-Chadwick of Marine FCU and Julie Wilson of iQ CU.
Founded 33 years ago by an active group of internal auditors, ACUARP noted it currently runs an internal audit certification school in conjunction with CUNA that has graduated almost 1,000 students with the Certified Credit Union Internal Auditor (CCUIA) designation.
In addition, ACUARP launched its own ERM Certification School, which held its inaugural gathering earlier this year, graduating the first class of Certified Credit Union Risk Managers (CCURM).
Schools Scheduled
The 12th ACUARP/CUNA audit certification school is set for Oct. 29 – Nov. 2 in Washington. The second ERM certification school will take place April 29 - May 3, 2024 in Tempe, Ariz.
The next ACUARP Annual Conference will be in Chicago from June 18 - 21, 2024.
