PROVIDENCE, R.I.–Sandra C. Cano, assistant vice president with Navigant Credit Union here, has been elected a state senator.
Cano had previously served as an at-large city councilor before winning a special election to fill a State Senate seat. She will now represent Rhode Island’s District 8.
“I'm going to keep my concentration on education, economy and jobs, and quality of life,” Cano said prior to being sworn in during a special ceremony at the State House's Senate Lounge.
Cano, 34, will become the first Columbia-American to serve in the Rhode Island Senate.
