As Part of ‘CU Kind Day,’ Staff at More Than 60 CUs in New Jersey, Pennsylvania Volunteer Time

BASKING RIDGE, N.J.–As part of CU Kind Day, credit union employees across New Jersey and Pennsylvania volunteered their time during what would have otherwise been a day off work for the Indigenous People’s Day/Columbus Day holiday.

The CrossState CU Association, which serves New Jersey and Pennsylvania, said it had more than 60 credit unions signed up to participate. Credit unions across the country held similar days--watch CUToday.info for additional coverage.

Among the credit unions participating was Affinity FCU, which said it used its "Impact Day" iof service to help community organizations in 18 communities across its market area of New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut, saying the effort marked its “year-round commitment” to making a difference in the areas it serves.

Impact Day kicked off with employees gathering at their nearest Affinity branch. The volunteers heard a live town hall address from President and CEO Kevin Brauer, before departing for an afternoon of service.

The credit union said its employees assisted at food pantries, senior centers, soup kitchens, and youth organizations, and further rolled up their sleeves to clean up a number of local parks. Remote employees were encouraged to volunteer at a local organization of their choice.

‘Success Tied to Wellbeing’

“We believe that our success is tied to the wellbeing of the communities we serve,” said Pam Cohen, SVP-culture and administration. “Through Impact Day, we highlight our unwavering commitment to community wellbeing, showing pride in the areas we serve, while giving back to these organizations to express our appreciation for their goodwill.”
