As NCUA Conducts Website Exams, NAFCU Offers Some Reminders

ARLINGTON, Va.–NCUA examiners have been conducting website exams as part of recent examinations, according to reports received by NAFCU.

Writing on NAFCU’s blog, Brandy Bruyere, vice president of regulatory compliance with the grade association, said NAFCU has heard from its members that such reviews are taking place.

Bruyere noted there are several related issues credit unions should be aware of during such exams, especially when it comes to what is defined as “advertising content.”

“Keep in mind that federal regulations define advertisement quite broadly,” wrote Bruyere.

Advertising content, she said, can include use of the official NCUA sign, accuracy of advertising, deposit accounts and TIS advertising rules, electronic advertising, Reg Z, electronic funds transfers and other account considerations, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, and more.
