WASHINGTON—CUNA has launched the general election phase of its Credit Unions Vote Member Activation Program (MAP) campaign.
According to the trade association, the campaign calls on credit unions to encourage members to participate in the upcoming elections and visit CreditUnionsVote.com.
“It’s important for credit unions to promote civic engagement and lead by example, which is why this campaign is focused on getting credit union members to vote in the mid-terms,” said Adam Engelman, CUNA director of federal grassroots and programs. “Sending members to CreditUnionsVote.com allows them to check their registration status, polling locations, get an absentee ballot, and more.”
CUNA said credit unions can customize short- and long-form email templates to match their regular communications materials. Additional resources can be found on CUNA’s MAP Community.
Primaries Update
Meanwhile, CULAC reported that 39 of the 41 candidates it backed in this week’s primaries in New York and Florida won their races, as well as a runoff in Oklahoma.
One race in which a CULAC-backed candidate lost was in New York, where Republican Mark Molinaro, who was running to fill the seat vacated when Democrat Antonio Delgado resigned to become lieutenant governor in New York, lost the race in what was a surprise to many.
In Oklahoma, CULAC and the Cornerstone League backed Rep. Markwayne Mullin in the special primary runoff election. Mullin won the Republican nomination for the open Senate seat and will face former Rep. Kendra Horn in the general election in November.
In Florida, CULAC said it and the League of Southeastern Credit Unions supported 20 successful candidates, including:
- State Senate President Aaron Bean (R-04), an 18-year legislator in the newly formed seat.
- Former Secretary of State Laurel Lee (R-15), faced state Sen. Kelli Stargel and state Rep. Jackie Toledo in a competitive primary.
In New York, CULAC said it and the New York Credit Union Association backed 18 successful candidates, including:
- Laura Gillen, Democrat, won the open seat in the 4th District after squaring off against three other candidates in the primary.
- Incumbent Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (D-17), won against state Sen. Alessandra Biaggi.
