WASHINGTON—Indicative of the vigorous pushback the financial industry is mounting against a new piece of legislation before Congress, CUNA said it is now launching its “Protect My Card” Member Activation Program (MAP) campaign to activate credit union members to oppose the interchange bill introduced by Sens. Roger Marshall (R-KS) and Dick Durbin (D-IL).
The bill would allow merchants to route payments through an unaffiliated network.
CUNA said participating credit unions can download, customize and distribute message templates designed for employees and members, directing them to use CUNA’s Protect My Card website. Additional resources can be found on the MAP community.
‘Risks’ From Legislation
“This campaign is designed to educate credit union staff and members about the risks this legislation presents to the credit card system,” said CUNA Director of Federal Grassroots and Programs Adam Engelman. “This bill would harm credit unions, consumers, and small businesses, so this campaign encourages stakeholders to share these concerns with members of Congress.”
As CUToday.info reported here, CUNA and other credit union associations joined with bank trade groups in sending a letter in opposition to the bill.
