SALT LAKE CITY, Utah–A suspect dubbed the “Boonie Hat Bandit” here has been arrested and charged with two credit union robberies.
According to the Unified Police Department, Dennis Leota, 40, was arrested in Saratoga Springs by the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force after being identified from a social media post. Details around the social media post were not released.
According to police, Leota is a suspect in robberies of a branch of Mountain America Credit Union and Cyprus Credit Union.
The suspect earned the nickname for wearing what’s known as a “boonie hat” in each of the robberies.
Leota is being held without bail.
