PUERTO RICO— An arrest has been made in the fatal shooting of Noah Amerson, husband of Latonya Allen-Amerson, chief lending officer at Government Printing Office Federal Credit Union.
Amerson was killed last month while vacationing with his family in Puerto Rico. Noah and Latonya were in was in Puerto Rico celebrating their first wedding anniversary, WFMY said.
Authorities have charged 24-year-old Elias Perez Cruz with first-degree murder. According to police, Cruz shot Amerson during a robbery at an Airbnb property near San Juan on June 19. The suspect allegedly fled the scene with Amerson’s clothing, cash, and sneakers after firing the fatal shot in front of the victim’s family, WFMY reported.
Just hours later, Cruz is also accused of assaulting another man and stealing his clothing, according to WFMY.
Cruz is currently in custody with bond set at $2.75 million.
The African American Credit Union Coalition and Washington-based GPOFCU are seeking support for Latonya Allen-Amerson and her family.
AACUC’s Facebook page states: “On June 19, 2025, while vacationing in Puerto Rico, Latonya Allen and her family experienced the unthinkable. During a violent home invasion, Latonya’s husband, Noah Amerson, gave his life protecting his family.
“As Latonya and their children face a heartbreaking new reality, we’re asking our community to stand with them. A fundraising campaign has been launched to honor Noah’s legacy and provide critical support for his wife and children during this time of grief and healing…This is our moment to show up with love, solidarity, and support. Whether you give or simply share, every act helps carry this family forward.
