Arizona USA? Alaska USA Buys $17-Million Building As It Expands In State

GLENDALE, Ariz.–Alaska USA Federal Credit Union has paid $17 million for a two-story, 185,000-square-foot office building here, near where it already has an existing data center and branch and vacant land purchased over the past few several years.

SVP-Corporate Administration Dan McCue told The Phoenix Business Journal it is part of the CU’s planned expansion in the market.

"There's a lot to still happen and it will take time," the Business Journal quoted McCue as saying. "There's nothing that will be an immediate overnight. Obviously, we made the investment. That was the most important step — to get the building. The plan is to continue to move our operations in there."

The credit union paid about $20 million for 20 acres about six years ago, followed by a 22,500-square-foot property for a data center. Last year, it opened its first branch in front of the data center.

The $6.6-billion Alaska USA FCU is based in Anchorage, Alaska, and has more than 600,000 members, more than half of whom live outside its home state. It has 11,000 members in Arizona.
