CUPERTINO, Calif.–While the focus around Apple’s new credit card has been on its prospects to grab marketshare, including inside the Apple Wallet, it’s now getting attention for another reason: cardholders are being cautioned not to scuff it. Apple’s cautionary instructions for keeping the card clean have led to numerous jokes on Twitter, as CUToday.info reports below.
On its support webpage for the new titanium Apple Card, under the headline “How to Clean Your Apple Card,” the company has issued a different kind of technical support, cautioning cardholders the card should not come in contact with some fabrics, such as leather and denim, which could permanently discolor the card. Moreover, Apple is also urging cardholders to not place the card in any wallet slot in which there is another card in order to ensure the card isn’t scratched.
And there are even more warnings: Apple says customers should also avoid storing their Apple Cards in pockets or bags or any other container that also holds keys, loose change or “other potentially abrasive objects.”
‘Wipe With Microfiber Cloth’
"If your titanium Apple Card comes into contact with hard surfaces or materials, it's possible that the coating can be damaged," text on the website reads.
The website suggests the titanium card be cleaned wiping it with a microfiber cloth that has been moistened with isopropyl alcohol.
The card, which is being issued by Goldman Sachs, has a clean minimalist design in keeping with the company’s other products. It is available only to iPhone users and is built into the Apple Wallet app.
How People Are Reacting
The cleaning instructions from Apple for its new card were met with a wave of jokes, especially on Twitter. Among them:
- “Don’t put the Apple Card in your wallet. Hang in a floating glass frame in a dimly lit, year round 70 degree, humidity controlled location. No flash photography please."
- “Siri what are most wallets made of? Siri, what is the most common material used in pants?”
- “Do not look directly at Apple Card. Do not speak to Apple Card. Do not denigrate Apple Card in Its Holy Presence. When not in use, Apple Card should be returned to a uniformly lit white cube containing only a British man softly repeating al-lu-min-ee-um.”
