PENSACOLA, Fla.–In another indicator of just what an outlier Navy Federal is within the credit union community, it is getting its own freeway exit here.
Federal authorities have cleared the way for the state of Florida to select a plan that would ease traffic congestion around Navy Federal Credit Union that could add another exit on eastbound Interstate 10, according to the Pensacola News Journal.
At issue is traffic related to the $84-billion Navy Federal’s extensive campus here at which approximately 6,200 employees already work, with plans calling for that number to increase to 10,000. Congestion has meant employees can spend 20 minutes or more just trying to leave Navy Federal’s parking facility, according to a county commissioner. Nearby residents have also complained of the traffic.
Government officials are now trying to move forward with a plan that would create an additional exit to alleviate traffic while the county works on building a new interstate interchange at Beulah Road as part of the Beulah Beltway Project, which could take seven to 10 years.
