ALPENA, Mich.—The wave of cars crashing into credit unions continues—two people were injured this week when a car crashed into the Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union.
As CUToday.info reported here, vehicles striking credit union buildings occurs far more often than might be believed.
The most recent crash happened mid-day at Alcona Area Credit Union’s branch on Bagley Street in Alpena Township.
Alpena Township Fire Department Capt. Ken Piper said the driver of the car refused medical care. Two employees inside the credit union when the crash happened were taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries, The Alpena News reported.
“Basically, the driver was attempting to back out, thought it was in reverse, hit the gas. When it started going forward she panicked and stayed on the gas until the front wheels got over the edge and couldn’t drive anymore,” Piper told The Alpena News.
Credit union officials said they don’t plan to close because of the accident, The Alpena News noted.
