LOMPOC, Calif.—Another credit union has been hit by an ATM card skimming attack. This time it’s CoastHills CU.
The FBI is working with the $864-million credit union to determine who attached skimming devices to two of the CU’s ATMs—one at the Lompoc office and another at the Santa Maria branch.
Experts have stated that more cyber thieves are turning to old-school ATM skimming as retailers improve their data security measures and as EMV takes hold. CUToday.info has reported numerous cases of ATM card skimming this year.
CoastHills said instant-issue replacement cards are being made available to members who used the hacked machines on Friday and a portion of Saturday.
“We are partnering with law enforcement to fully resolve the issue, including the FBI,” Paul Cook, CoastHills CIO, told KCBX.
CoastHills reported that surveillance video may have captured an image of the suspected skimmers (see photo). The video has been provided to local police.
