PASCO, Wash.–Credit unions are starting to build a new tradition: Helping kids stay on the good side of the lunch lady.
Numerica Credit Union has become the latest to donate funds to schools to help pay outstanding student lunch debt. Numerica donated $25,000 to Title 1 elementary schools in Spokane, Wenatchee, Tri-Cities and Coeur d'Alene school districts to help cover lunch tabs that needed to be paid.
Most recently, Numerica representatives were in Tri-Cities to present the Pasco School District with a check for $3,676.50. The gift is part of Numerica's core purpose to enhance lives, fulfill dreams and build communities, according to YakTriNews.com.
“If you look at the organizations we give to, a lot of them focus on women and children in need," said Andy Stirling, Central Washington vice president for Numerica. "So this holiday season it was a no brainer to do this."
Other CUs Picking Up Lunch Tabs
As CUToday.info reported here, Canvas Credit Union in Colorado recently donated $60,000 to Aurora Public Schools to pay off outstanding student lunch debt at Lansing Elementary School, where the principal said 6% come from homeless families. And earlier, in Montana, Rocky Mountain Credit Union got involved after hearing of a local mom’s efforts to pay down school debt by donating more than $5,000 to a number of different schools.
