HOUSTON–Cameron Dickey, president and CEO of Cy-Fair FCU here, has filed to run in the local election to fill one of two open positions on the Water Control Improvement District #157 board (WCID) in Cypress, Texas.

The WCID is responsible for setting policies and overseeing water management projects in the Bridgeland community of Cypress. If elected, Dickey would join the five-person board in planning and guiding water management decisions, reducing unnecessary water consumption, preventing future flood water damage to homes and businesses, maintaining healthy lakes and parklands, and repairing berms, lakes or ditches damaged by storms.

According to the credit union, Dickey’s filing follows a record-breaking year of local outreach and support by Cy-Fair FCU to the surrounding communities. Last year, Cy-Fair FCU employees dedicated nearly 1,400 volunteer hours. The credit union also provided more than $260,000 to support teachers and students within the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District (CFISD) in 2017. Direct support to CFISD students and teachers included college scholarships and classroom makeovers, as well as awarding one local teacher a new car. The credit union also donated $24,000 to other deserving, local nonprofits.

“Cy-Fair FCU remains wholeheartedly committed to supporting the Cypress region,” said Dickey. “My family is fortunate to call this community home. I’m running for the WCID board because I want to do even more to ensure this area continues to be a remarkable place for our credit union members, local businesses, neighbors and families.”

Cy-Fair said Hurricane Harvey and the resulting devastation was a major reason behind Dickey’s decision to run. A contributing factor in the widespread flooding during Hurricane Harvey was the overflow from Cypress Creek, which runs along the northern boundary of WCID #157. Immediately following Hurricane Harvey, Cy-Fair FCU approved 750 skipped loan payments, waived or reversed more than $5,000 in fees, processed nearly $350,000 in GAP insurance claims to replace flood-damaged cars, and provided more than 100 emergency personal loans.

“When members turned to us for help, we were ready. We remain committed and ready to help the next time our community is in need,” added Dickey. “I believe my addition to the WCID board will bring added business experience to an organization that sets tax rates for part of the community, manages water runoff and helps set direction for important flood water mitigation measures. I am hopeful that I can further serve our community and help find solutions before the next Harvey-type event.”
