Another ATM is Ripped From Wall By Thieves Using Construction Equipment

ANCHORAGE, Alaska–In what appears to be a growing trend, thieves used construction equipment to rip an ATM out of the wall of a branch of Denali FCU here and drive away with the machine.

Crooks backed a truck up to the ATM and used construction equipment to pull the ATM out of the building located on 36th Avenue, according to a report from KTBY.  Denali FCU told the news station that they have the incident on surveillance footage. However, Denali is not releasing the footage due to the police investigation that is under way.

The report did not indicate how much money was in the ATM, or what type of construction equipment was used.

Local firefighters were the first to discover the theft—when the thieves ripped the ATM out of the wall it triggered a fire alarm. The firefighters then called the police.

Denali FCU spokesperson Keith Fernandez told KTBY that while stealing ATMs seems to be a growing trend, it’s not as easy as opening the ATM to find a lot of money.
