WASHINGTON–CUNA and the World Council of Credit Unions have announced 2021’s International Credit Union Day theme.
The theme is “Building Financial Health for a Brighter Tomorrow.” Graphics and other materials related to the new theme have yet to be released.
International CU Day will be held on Oct. 21, with International Credit Union Week beginning Oct. 17.
CUNA noted the annual event seeks to raise global awareness for the credit union movement through outreach, volunteering, fundraising and other ICU Day-themed activities. Credit unions bring financial inclusion and a promising future to people all over the world, CUNA stated, adding that since the first celebration in 1948, ICU Day is a chance to spotlight and celebrate these achievements.
“Financial well-being for all is a shared commitment among America’s credit unions, leagues, and CUNA,” said Ariel Bilskey, director of blended learning at CUNA.
At ‘Heart of Mission’
In conjunction with the announcement, CUNA said its board recently approved the following unity statement:
“Financial well-being is the state of a person’s financial situation, their degree of control, and how they feel about their money.
“Improving people’s financial well-being is at the heart of the mission and structure of America's credit unions. The essence of this commitment is reflected in each institution's bylaws and it’s something credit unions have been doing for more than 100 years.
“On behalf of America’s credit unions, our shared commitment is to continue to accelerate the vital work of improving financial well-being for all and advancing the communities we serve.”
CUNA said participating credit unions will be able to showcase how they are working to improve the financial well-being of their members, including highlighting activities with the social media tag #ICUDay.
This year’s event is again being sponsored by Harland Clarke. Additional information can be found at cuna.org/icuday.
