MENOMONIE, Wis.—Another car has crashed into a credit union. A car struck an office of WESTconsin Credit Union in downtown Menomonie. The driver stated that he fell asleep behind the wheel, the Leader-Telegram reported.
As CUToday.info reported here, vehicles strike credit union structures far more often than might be thought.
In the case of the WESTconsin incident, Nicholas Schneider, 20, told Menomonie police he was southbound in the 300 block of South Broadway Street and when he awoke he was eastbound on Crescent Street. The car stuck the northwest corner of the credit union at 444 S. Broadway St., causing major damage to the side of the building, police reports stated.
Schneider was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia after a marijuana pipe was found in the vehicle. He also was cited for two counts of bail jumping, inattentive driving and no proof of auto insurance, the newspaper reported.
