MADISON, Wis.–The CUNA Lending Council announced the winner of its 2017 Phil Greer Lifetime Achievement Award is Rex Johnson.
Johnson is well known in credit unions for his consulting on lending. He started Baxter Credit Union in Chicago with just 20 members and $500 in deposits. Twelve years later, membership had grown to 72,000 and assets had reached $300 million.
Johnson went on to create Lending Solutions, Inc. (LSI) in 1994 and Lending Solutions Consulting, Inc. (LSCI) in 2000. He has shared his lending, sales and collections expertise with credit unions of all sizes across North America, and LSCI has trained more than 33,000 credit union employees to date.
Named for the late Phil Greer, senior vice president of loan administration for State Employees CU, the award recognizes lifetime achievement by a credit union lending professional who exemplifies the same kind of leadership, passion and commitment Greer brought to the lending profession.
“Rex’s dedication to providing the best member services and the leadership he showed while starting Baxter CU are what the Phil Greer award is all about” said Bob Stowell, CUNA Lending Council Chair and senior vice president/chief lending officer at Firefly CU, Burnsville, Minn. “However, he didn’t stop there. The knowledge he has helped to provide to thousands of credit union lenders with his consulting services has helped to propel our movement forward.”
Johnson will be honored at the CUNA Lending Council’s annual Conference Nov. 12-15 in Nashville.
