WASHINGTON–Credit Union Miracle Day (CUMD), which sponsors the annual Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run in the Spring, has announced the winners of awards that include the top credit union running team, fastest credit union runners, most spirited volunteer team and top fundraisers.
The winners are:
- Credit Union Cup, for the fastest team time, was “NASA FCU FIRE.” The credit union has won the cup a record six times. CEO Doug Allman and Chair John Sissala accepted the trophy.
- The fastest credit union female was Megan Merryman of Interior FCU with a time of 1:07:57. The credit union’s board member, Monica Taylor-Lane accepted the award on her behalf.
- The fastest credit union male was Sebi Devlin-Foltz of FRB FCU with a time of 57:25. His award was presented to CEO Pauline Dunbar-Berens and the chair at the credit union’s recent annual meeting.
- The Most Spirited Volunteer Team Award went to PenFed Credit Union at water stop Charlie and Echo. The race organizers chose the team for its flexibility and enthusiasm. The award was presented to volunteer coordinator Laurie Horstmann.
There are two award categories for fundraising, according to CUMD. The first is the most raised in the credit union Organization Donation Challenge which was won by:
- Department of Labor FCU at 49 cents per member. CEO Joan Moran accepted the award.
The other fundraising award is the most raised in the Member Donation Challenge, which resulted in a tie:
- Constellation FCU at 45 cents per member. CEO Bobby Josephson and Anne Katzer accepted the award.
- The Partnership FCU at 45 cents per member. Robin Scott received the award.
Officials presenting the awards included Theresa Mann, CEO of The Partnership FCU and CUMD Chair; John Bratsakis, CEO of the MD|DC Credit Union Association and CUMD Vice Chair; Jan Roche, CEO of State Department FCU and CUMD Treasurer; and Phil Stewart, the Race Director.
CUMD reported that over the 16 years credit unions have been title sponsors of the Run, more than $8 million has been donated to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNHs) nationwide. CUNA Mutual Group and PSCU serve as co-lead partners with CUMD.
Other notes from this year’s race:
- 199 Members of Congress from 44 states signed on in support of the race
- A growing number of CUs supported the cause – 70 total
- $580,485 was donated to CMNHs
- 16,000 runners participated in the 10 miler
- 2,000 walkers and runners participated in the 5k
- The Kids’ Run had 360 participants and parents, many of whom made donations to CMNHs
- More than 500 volunteers helped on race day
