BASKING RIDGE, N.J.–The credit union community has a new champion when it comes to picking the NCAA men’s basketball March Madness brackets.
Scott Witherspoon, chief credit officer at Affinity FCU, finished on top of the CUToday.info “CU in the Tournament” bracket challenge with 125 points. The second-place finisher had 112 points.
For his acumen, Witherspoon has won a $100 gift card from CUToday.info, and, of course, the extraordinary, paparazzi-attracting fame that comes with it.
Witherspoon, who correctly picked North Carolina to win the tournament, told CUToday.info that when it comes to bracket-picking methodology that “long-storied programs generally do well and reach the Final Four.”
He noted that picking upsets in the mid-tier games is always difficult, and it requires a little luck with some of the picks, as well.
“The tournament brackets are a lot of fun, but there is very little skill to pick the surprising and passionate upsets that are a great part of the game year in and year out,” he said.
