JACKSONVILLE, Fla.–New York continues to be the state with the fastest home price appreciation, and is one of six states that continue to see strong, ongoing increases in housing values.
According to Black Knight Financial Services, August marked the third consecutive month New York State has seen the strongest home price increase at 0.9%. Florida and Utah followed with gains of 0.6%, followed by Washington, Arizona, and Idaho, all up 0.5%.
Florida and Washington together had nine of the ten performing metropolitan areas, Black Knight Financial Services reported. The only metro area to post a loss was St. Louis, where prices were down 0.7%.
Black Knight also reported that its Home Price Index (HPI) inched up only 0.1% from August to September, adding that monthly appreciation has declined every month since May with the August number the smallest monthly increase since January's identical gain. The September HPI was $266,000.
According to Black Knight, several states saw prices decline in September, led by Connecticut at 0.9%, Missouri and Illinois at 0.5%, and California, New Jersey, and Alaska with declines of 0.3%.
