MADISON, Wis./WASHINGTON–The 2017 International Credit Union Day theme has been announced by CUNA and the World Council of Credit Unions: “Dreams Thrive Here.”
The theme was selected via an online poll of professionals in the credit union community.
“The theme reflects the initial results of CUNA’s ongoing research into what resonates with consumers about credit unions,” said Jeremiah Tucker, CUNA consumer engagement program lead, in a statement. “Credit unions are good at showing how we’re the socially responsible choice for banking, but we also need to remind consumers that credit unions are their best choice for personal success and satisfaction.”
ICU Day—celebrated on the third Thursday of every October since 1948—is Oct. 19, 2017. It’s the one day every year the worldwide movement bands together to celebrate the spirit and philosophy of credit unions, CUNA said, with Tucker adding, “We encourage all credit unions to support the movement by celebrating it.”
CUNA said it will again make the celebrating easier by offering free marketing collateral—including a social media toolkit—and an online store where credit union can purchase t-shirts, giveaways, and decorations that reinforce the theme. The trade group said it will also once again team with Credit Unions for Kids on ICU Day for Shop for Miracles 2017. Through this campaign, participating credit unions will make a donation to a local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital for each credit or debit card transaction made by their members on Oct. 19.
