WASHINGTON–Every week CUNA has held a press call on Mondays with the credit union media. This week marked the trade association’s last such call.
NAFCU, which cancelled its call this week, has also traditionally met with the media on Monday, and has also now held its last official call as a trade group.
Effective Jan. 1, CUNA and NAFCU will merge out of existence to form the new group, America’s Credit Unions.
While the two groups have announced that CUNA President Jim Nussle will lead the combined organization and NAFCU President Dan Berger will exit, that is the only personnel move CUNA and NAFCU have announced to date. The groups have not said who will make up the Capitol Hill advocates representing credit unions moving forward.
Informing Capitol Hill
Asked by CUToday.info how the change involving two of the most well-known groups in Washington is being communicated on Capitol Hill, CUNA’s deputy chief advocacy officer for federal affairs, Jason Stverak, said that since the merger was announced in August representatives of both groups have been communicating the pending change on a regular basis with members of Congress and especially with the committees of jurisdiction over financial services related efforts.
