Amex Adds Card Enhancements, Including an Airline Card Literally Made from an Airliner

NEW YORK—American Express has announced enhancements to two of its cards, including an airline card that is literally made of an airliner.

With its American Express Platinum card already offering more than 40 premium lifestyle and travel benefits worth $1,500 in value, the company is celebrating the card’s 40th anniversary with a number of new, exclusive offers and experiences for holders of the plastic, Forbes reported.

Those include a complimentary third night at select hotels a platinum Card 40%-point transfer offer, special dining benefits, platinum 40th anniversary Amex offers, unique Centurion Lounge menu items, and premium event access.

“Even without these new benefits, the Amex Platinum Card offers significant value annually with credits on select purchases and other benefits across dining, travel, entertainment, retail and wellness,” Forbes noted.

A Piece of History

Separately, consumers can now use a credit card that's made from a piece of storied aviation history.

The new Delta SkyMiles Reserve American Express Card or Delta SkyMiles Reserve Business American Express Card with the limited-edition Boeing 747 design are being made from two retired Delta Air Lines Boeing 747 aircraft, The Points Guy reported.

Delta and American Express have partnered to release a limited-edition card design made with 33% metal from two retired 747 “Queen of the Skies” aircraft.

This sleek card is available to both new and existing Delta Amex cardmembers, The Points Guy said.

“The two retired aircraft that were used to create the limited-edition Boeing 747 card design, Delta Ships 6302 and 6310, had many amazing stories from their passengers and crew during their time in the sky,” The Points Guy said. “For example, in addition to safely carrying travelers across the globe, they also carried U.S. service troops headed on missions overseas.”
