WASHINGTON–Americans are feeling better about the economy.
According to the Conference Board, the index of consumer confidence climbed to 104.1 this month from 101.8 in August.
“Consumers’ assessment of present-day conditions improved, primarily the result of a more positive view of the labor market,” said Lynn Franco, director of economic indicators at the board, in a statement. “Looking ahead, consumers are more upbeat about the short-term employment outlook, but somewhat neutral about business conditions and income prospects.”
According to the Conference Board, the present situation index, a measure of current conditions, climbed to 128.5 from 125.3. That’s also the highest level since August 2007.
